Those guys are VERY well known, especially if you are an AES member. Never saw a speaker with their names on it though, just read some of their work.
Google the names on the speaker you will find out for yourself.

OG, I did some Googling and came across this interview. It is long but what interested me was the fortuitous meeting in para.5. A good deed returned many fold which had a large impact on an industry.

Were these built for BBN by TAD/pioneer?
I feel the attraction, and considering the degree to which BBN has been involved in speech recognition and acoustics, those are probably something quite special.
Upon a little searching it appears that the origins of the internet are attributed to Bolt Beranek & Newman.
