    OT: REAL oddities

I'm gonna cry. I want 'em. I don't even know why.

    OK.... I'll bite.

They look rather heavy duty, perhaps made to mil-spec?
Are they an audio upgrade option for a Humvee? :lollipop:

Those guys are VERY well known, especially if you are an AES member. Never saw a speaker with their names on it though, just read some of their work.

Google the names on the speaker you will find out for yourself.

Those are probably older than a Humvee.

I just wanna play with them.

OG, I did some Googling and came across this interview. It is long but what interested me was the fortuitous meeting in para.5. A good deed returned many fold which had a large impact on an industry.

    Cheers, Marshall.
Opinion is only as valid as its verifiable supporting evidence.

Thanks! A wonderful read. I was kinda grouchy this morning, helped a bit.

Those fellows names made it onto a lot of projects. I have no idea what the speakers were designed for.

Sad how much old school tech we have lost though. I wish somebody had really started archiving stuff at the beginnings of the audio industry.

Somebody wanted those speakers badly. $345 for 6 ten inch speakers? He knows something we don't...

Why, at the auction site, are they credited to Pioneer Electronics Corp?

Were these built for BBN by TAD/pioneer?

I feel the attraction, and considering the degree to which BBN has been involved in speech recognition and acoustics, those are probably something quite special.

Upon a little searching it appears that the origins of the internet are attributed to Bolt Beranek & Newman.
